A parish of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch, gathering faithful from Kerala's Malankara tradition in worship, in Malayalam, English, and Syriac, since 1979.
St. Mary's began on January 14th, 1979, when nine Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox families gathered under Rev. Father John Jacob for the first Eucharist, celebrated by His Eminence Mor Athanasius Yeshue Samuel at a rented church hall in New York City. Eighteen families joined that inaugural day.
What followed was two decades of a congregation without a permanent home — from Fort George to the Holy Rood Episcopal auditorium, through members' own living rooms, a chapel in the Bronx, and finally a seminary chapel — each move carried by the same founding families, until the parish purchased its own church building at 99 Park Avenue, White Plains.
